A Wrighteous Wedding

A Stunning Micro Wedding in a Frank Lloyd Wright Wedding Venue

When the opportunity arose to have an editorial shoot in a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house, Kase Styles jumped at the chance. It was a timely alignment—Covid had forcefully limited the scope of work for wedding planning. Fortunately, Frank Lloyd Wright’s preference for sourcing local materials provided the perfect inspiration for how to style the shoot. Like Wright, Wisconsin-based Kase Styles began to look for other locally-sourced pieces to honor Wright's passion for keeping creativity true to the native region it was created for.

Styling a wedding day worthy of taking place in a Frank Lloyd Wright home is something that the KaseStyles team took very seriously as one of our team members is an avid FLW enthusiast. In every design choice, we carefully considered Wright's organic architecture. The pieces needed to stand on their own, yet perfectly complement the historic landmark. And as the Seth Peterson Cottage is Wright's smallest residential design at 880-square feet, we knew it was the perfect choice for hosting an intimate occasion such as a micro wedding. We landed on a theme: Architectural, Intimate, Organic, Minimalist, and Local.

Both of the beautiful wedding dresses are part of a collection by a Chicago wedding boutique owner, Alyssa Kristin. The team was intentional about mirroring Wright’s architectural lines in the lines of the dresses while allowing each bride to have their own personality—one softer, one edgier.

Keeping this vision in mind, Kase Styles arranged two starkly different bouquets—one sultry and dynamic, one sweet and lush—that reflected the very different brides with equally beautiful arrangements.

The invitation suite—designed by Madison-based graphic designer, Angela at Saffron Avenue—reflected the beautiful lines of Wright’s architecture in a fresh, yet subdued color palette.

The main floral installation for the wedding ceremony was placed in front of the architectural gem that is the Seth Peterson cottage. It was created on-site to allow for an organic feel, allowing inspiration to be drawn from the many lines of the roof, windows, and brickwork, as well as the surrounding natural landscape. The piece features anemones, ranunculuses, and roses, with dried accents of pampas grass and cattails. And while the pieces look organic and almost grown-in to the places they were arranged, they were also transportable; a fact that became useful later when we wanted to offset the severe lines of the wall of windows with something softer to frame the beautiful brides.

The jewelry was sourced from a Madison-based jeweler, Melissa Jenkins, whose collection featured structured, graphic shapes that perfectly suited the space.

The table was artfully adorned with local pieces from a Steven’s Point ceramicist, Bit of Earth Pottery Company, who hand-crafted the pieces specifically for the shoot. We forwent linens, instead favoring the pairing of the raw materials of ceramic and wood. It also allowed us to feature the original pieces of the dining room during the cocktail hour/dinner.

The dessert was sourced from the local Main Grain Bakery in Steven’s Point, which baked delicious gluten-free ginger peach cupcakes—a perfect dessert choice for a micro-wedding like this. (But they’d also be a crowd-pleaser at a large wedding - speaking from experience.)

The one exception to the local preference was the shoe choice because the team really wanted to include sculptural shapes, which were perfectly embodied in the Singaporean Charles+Keith heels. Surely Frank—an avid collector of Japanese woodblock prints and art—would forgive the wandering eye.

The team delighted in the opportunity to take the pause the pandemic created and showcase the dazzling talent of local creators while also paying homage to the iconic Wisconsin-creator that was Frank Lloyd Wright. Seth Peterson Cottage is available as a rental for private events. And while they aren’t on social media, all of the other incredibly talented local creators are:
